I want to explain why I love techno and electronic music. First, i listen to many genres and enjoy almost all of it, but currently i strongly prefer techno or electronic. People often think “techno” who do not extensively listen to the genre usually think of a few songs they categorize as techno and judge it. Techno is not a genre anymore, it is more of the directory for all of the subgenres. You would be amazed at how many genres there are of techno, and most of these songs have no lyrics. They are judged purely by the emotions evoked purely from sound and music itself when you listen to them. There’s no lyrical value or connection with the artist. It feels sort of annonymous, but you come to know an artist from his sound and style, his craftsmenship, which i find beautiful and insightful into their minds.Elaborating on genres, there’s trance, psytrance, house, deep house, progressive house, electronica, electro, minimal, club, club-house, progressive electro, GOA, psychadelic, dance, disco funk, drum and bass, dubstep, and many more. And then all those subgenres mix and mingle with eachother and create more subgenres. Electronic music has the ability to mix and combine elements and emotions of sound from different genres like no other. The producer has the ultimate power of sampling, looping, and creating never heard before sounds. The producer is the current day orchestrator. He is the ultimate experimenter in sound. He can take any emotion, any sensory perception, and play upon it such as sound phasing left and right, low & high frequencies, arpeggios, dimensions, or just any other crazy sonic effect. How can anything be fresher than this? Don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot of really bad techno out there, but there’s so much good stuff too. That’s the problem with this genre. Discovering stuff is pretty hard sometimes, and it depends on what your flavor or preference is at the time. Even most popular rap now is highly electronic and dependent on the producer, not like when rap used to be all about the MC and his rhymes. People I think currently pushing the edge in variety and sound is Simian Mobile Disco, Boys Noize, Justice, Deadmau5, Dubfire, Mux Mool, Booka Cade, Ratatat, Above & Beyond, and many others. Anyway, I feel like in terms of being a person who enjoys a variety of music, electronic is like being able to enjoy all of it at once. There is so much variety and so many revolutionary styles and sounds that hardly any two songs sound alike. You could disagree and say how trance is really generic and repetitive, but listen to everything considered trance first and see how different it can be. Oh yeah, and electronic music blows your mind when you’re high, haha.
